You can apply for a card in person at the main circulation desk or in the Children’s Room. Please bring two forms of identification. One must be a photo ID and the second must show proof of residency, such as a lease agreement, car registration or utility bill.

Library card applicants may be turned away from getting a library card if they have a bill associated with another library.

Library cards are free to residents of Rumford, Byron, Roxbury and Hanover. They are also free to employees of the Town of Rumford.

  • Residents of the town of Rumford, Employees of the town of Rumford and residents of Hanover, Byron and Roxbury can get a free library card.
  • Non-residents pay $30.00.
  • Seniors (65), Disabled, veterans, their spouses and students pay $10.00.
  • One month card is available for $5.00.
  • Children under the age of 13 must have parental consent to get a library card.
  • Printing is $.15 a page.
  • Faxing is $1.00 for the first page and $.50 for each page after that.
  • Scanning to e-mail or flash drive is $.50 for the first page and $.25 for each page after that.

DVD’s are limited to 5 checked out at one time. There are no limits on other items. There is a 15 item limit for books / items you can put on hold.

Social Security has a room off the Public Room that is accessible on Tuesday’s from 9AM-1PM. Please come in and have a seat and you will be able to talk to a live Social Security representative. Clients are on a first come, first served basis

Requests for items may be placed through the on-line catalog at www.minerva.maine.edu. You may also fill out a request form online or at the front desk.

You may call the library and renew your items over the phone during regular business hours. You may go on line www.minerva.maine.edu and access your patron record to renew. You may also come to the library during business hours and renew in person.

Your card needs to be renewed once a year. You may renew by bringing in your ID and presenting it at the desk.

The Public Room is available for reservation by community organizations or groups. To make a reservation complete our on-line application or visit the library to pick up an application. The Public Room schedule shows availability. Seating is approximately 100 people.

You need a picture ID and something with your name and address on it. A piece of mail, a prescription bottle, car registration or similar item will work. We will ask to see your card whenever you check an item out.

Everything from the Rumford Library goes out for 2 weeks. These items can be renewed 3 times. Items from other libraries go out for 3 weeks. These items may be renewed once by calling the Circulation desk or coming into the Rumford Library. Please ask about extended loans if you have vacation plans or special circumstances.

Rumford Public Library does not charge over due fines. Lost or destroyed items will be still be charged to the borrowing patron for the cost of replacement.

A form, available at the front desk, must be filled out by the patron to authorize someone else to pick up their items. Items may not be ordered on a card by anyone but the card holder.

Parents are responsible for supervising children in the use of the library and its materials. The minimum age a child may be left unattended at the library is 10 years of age. Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by someone 14 years of age or older. The Rumford Library cannot assume the responsibility for children left unattended. The library is not responsible for materials used or borrowed by children that their parents may find objectionable.

A check may be sent to the library with the honoree’s name on it. All checks should be made out to The Friends of the Library.

Books and DVDs may be dropped off at the library. Any items we cannot use for the collection will be donated to our annual Friends of the Library book sale. Items we do not accept include: encyclopedias, medical books older that 5 years, anything that is moldy, torn, dirty or smells.
